Jaclyn Lavy,
Jaclyn Lavy is a specialist at Sotheby’s. She joined the Sotheby’s New York team in 2020 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2019. With her knowledge of blockchain technology and her enthusiasm for emerging and contemporary art, she quickly made an impact and helped establish the Digital Art/NFT team in April 2021. Jaclyn’s passion for bridging the gap between the digital and physical art worlds has led her to collaborate with the Contemporary Departments in New York, Paris, Hong Kong, London, and Paris to include curated digital sections within contemporary sales. She has also helped establish the private sales arm of the department and, most recently, released Sotheby’s Generative Art program, inaugurated by the ‘grand dame’ of generative art, Vera Molnar, who was able to release her first and only project on the blockchain.
Moreover, Jaclyn has helped curate and execute new exhibitions in Sotheby’s metaverse locations in Decentraland and Oncyber, as well as in the gallery spaces in NYC. She has also formed strategic partnerships with several exchange platforms, enabling Sotheby’s clients to transact using cryptocurrencies. She also manages and moderates Sotheby’s Metaverse Twitter handle, which helps drive engagement and build a community around the company’s activities in the Metaverse; it currently has over 36k followers. The Digital Art department has brought in more than $150,000,000 in sales. It is just the beginning of the movement, and Sotheby’s will continue to support the ecosystem.
INSIGHT FROM JACLYN:
On Getting Into the World of Digital Art: “Figure out what part of the [art] world you want to be in. Learning about all the different departments and areas of the art world is really interesting. Auction is a great place to start because you’re working with the gallery and helping the artist. ”
