“Through talks facilitated by Baker events, I have been able to gain a better understanding of the complexity of the space so that I can hone in on areas of interest and impact in both my coursework and career.”
I am a senior in Wharton concentrating in Management and Marketing. I have been involved in the Wharton Retail Club since freshman year and had the opportunity to become engaged early on—I came onto the board as a sophomore as VP of Operations to plan internal events and handle logistics for guest events and am now working on sponsor engagement as VP of Corporate Sponsorship. As the Club has a strong relationship with the Baker Retailing Center, I have had the ability to explore my retail interest through career treks, on-campus lunch and learns, and industry events that Baker has provided. The Baker Retailing Center has helped me the most in terms of understanding the current challenges and opportunities facing the retail industry. Outside of school, I mainly try to stay on top of retail news and insights, especially regarding operations and the changing nature of the physical store. Over the summer I had the opportunity to really dive into this while working at Oak Labs, a startup founded by Penn alumni, which is bringing technology into the store to streamline the shopping process and provide unique customer experiences.
