- An Overview of Macy's, Inc.
Macy's, Inc. is one of the nation's largest retailers and provides excellent merchandise and service to a variety of customers and markets through its two major department stores, Macy's and Bloomingdales. Macy's has become an American institution, capturing the spirit of the country by reflecting its diverse lifestyles and providing its customers with affordable luxury. Through participation in events like the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the store has been a household name for nearly a century. Bloomingdale's, on the other hand, is the nation's only full-line upscale department store and looks to provide superior service and innovative merchandise.
Since the company's acquisition of the May department stores in 2005, Macy's, Inc. (formerly Federated Department Stores) has come to operate 40 Bloomingdale's stores and over 810 Macy's stores across the country. It employs almost 200,000 people and has the goal of becoming a retailer that "can see opportunity on the horizon and have a clear path for capitalizing on it".
