Gap, Inc. began in 1969 as a small store offering casualwear and jeans in San Francisco.  Now, Gap, Inc. is one of the world's largest specialty retailers, operating over 3,100 stores worldwide and managing for of the country's most recognized brands - Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Piperlime, each marketed to a different customer segment.  The company looks to provide its customers with ways to express their individuality and personal style, and each brand offers a different image and a variety of merchandise to do so.  Gap, Inc. creates an emotional connection to the brand with the customer through a positive in-store experience, product design, and creative marketing.
